The SteelSeries Nimbus Wireless Gaming Controller is a game controller that is meant to be used with your iPad, iPhone, Mac, and Apple TV. Today I will be talking mainly about using it on the Apple TV 4 because that is its main selling point. So to start out the controller is wireless and connects via bluetooth to your Apple TV. The controller comes in two colors black and white, but if you want the white version it is only available through Apple. To charge the controller you use a lightning cable, and SteelSeries says it has a 40+ hour battery. I personally have never had to charge the controller since I bought it so I haven’t tested this but it seams correct so far. One feature I would have liked to see on the remote would be the Siri button so you don’t have to always grab the Siri remote when you want to use voice search.

The controller can be used to navigate through the Apple TV interface and play apps that are compatible with it. I found that the controller is great for racing games like Beach Buggy Racing and Asphalt 8. Some games such as Alto’s Adventure don’t take advantage of all the buttons on the controller and it only uses one button.

The controller is very sturdy and feels very good in my hands. I really enjoy using it to play games on my Apple TV. It is far superior to the Siri remote in terms of playing a racing game since with the controller it actually feels like you’re using a console to play games like on a Xbox or PlayStation.

At first, I was wondering if I should actually buy the controller and if I would actually use it that much. Now, I am very glad I bought this controller since it is great when I want to play games on my Apple TV instead of watching Netflix. So, I think if you plan on playing games and apps on your Apple TV like a console I would definitely pick this controller up since it feels much better playing games on than the Siri remote included with the Apple TV. If you plan on just using it to watch Netflix or YouTube I would just stick with the Siri remote.
